Polaris World Update December 2007

Condado de Alhama

A tremendous amount of work has been completed at this site. We had a meeting with Polaris last week and they informed us that several of the Jardines de Alhama units are being rendered at this time. The Los Naranjos area is also well under way but it is not possible to obtain photos here as there is no public access. Polaris have released the Golf Suites de Alhama which are a group of one bedroom apartments overlooking gardens (and just a few front line to the golf course). Polaris have also released a new section of the Penthouses at Los Naranjos resort. This section of the Penthouses have been much awaited and are in an excellent location front line to the golf course. Hacienda Riquelme

We have been having our first clients complete on this resort recently and all are pleased with their properties. The course should be playable in 1 to 2 months and is already looking in good shape.

Polaris have been delayed with regard to the resort centre which as you know incorporates the old hacienda which is to be refurbished into restaurants and other facilities. As in the UK, the Spanish authorities are very strict when it comes to refurbishing listed buildings and the planning permission has needed to be changed several times. In order for this not to hold things up any more, Polaris have now split the planning request into 2 parts, one for the old hacienda and the other for the rest of the resort centre. The resort centre part has now been completely passed so work is starting on that as we speak. The refurbishment of the old hacienda has also now been approved and planning permission can now be obtained. This has delayed things at Hacienda quite a bit so your patience is much appreciated. La Torre Golf Resort

La Torre Golf Resort just keeps getting better and better. It seems every time we visit La Torre, something more has been added to the resort centre. The only major thing now outstanding is the hotel (now upgraded from a 5 star Crowne Plaza to a 5 star Intercontinental hotel) which is well under way and is in the process of being bricked up. There are just a few key ready properties available here and as we saw at Mar Menor Golf Resort, there is a flurry of activity in the resale market which if Mar Menor is any guide will probably settle down by mid to end 07. Mar Menor Golf Resort

Following our meeting with Polaris World last week, we were told that construction will start in earnest this month. They aim to put more builders onto this project with the aim of recovering some of the delay that has been caused by the Torre Pacheco town hall. This is obviously good news for all of our clients who have bought here. I have asked Brian to visit the site to confirm this and take a few photos.

Terrazas de La Torre Golf Resort

Work continues apace here and Polaris have recently released Las Islas de Las Terrazas de La Torre – bit of a mouthful !!, but this is a selection of 2 and 3 bedroom apartments located in the heart of the resort with views over the lakes to the course beyond. El Valle Golf Resort

Work continues in the resort centre with the social centre being well underway. All properties here have been delivered though we do have a couple of the 1M Euro plus villas that have come back onto the market.

La Loma Golf Resort

Work is now not due to start here until the new year – so nothing to report as yet

COMPLETIONS

Polaris World no longer inform us of the dates for completion, so could you please keep us informed when you get a date for the Notary etc from them. We can then arrange for Brian (our aftersales manager) to meet you in Spain and accompany you to your property for snagging, be with you at the Notary and assist you with furniture etc etc. THIS IS A FREE SERVICE.

Watchdog – THAT PROGRAMME !!

Polaris World was given the BBC watchdog treatment for about 10 minutes a couple of weeks ago. Basically, as usual, the report was extremely biased and was totally unrepresentative. The BBC went to El Valle and rather than film the golf course, the completed villas or the completed apartments, only showed a single shot of foundations being excavated for the hotel – saying things like extensive delays, typical Spanish builders etc etc. Similarly, the BBC went to Hacienda Riquelme and of course did not show the completed apartments nor the golf course, but instead filmed the area where Polaris are currently storing their heavy construction equipment and dwelled quite a lot on a sign saying “strictly no entry – construction traffic only”.

Apparently the BBC were given the opportunity to film at La Torre and Mar Menor Golf Resorts, but they declined. We have also been told that the BBC did an interview with Polaris which gave their point of view but “chose” not to air it.

Having seen at first hand what Polaris have achieved, it makes one wonder just how accurate the rest of the Watchdog programme really is !!
