As many of you will be aware, a new runway has been constructed at Murcia airport (San Javier) over the last year. There have been objections in the Los Alcazares council, but we have been informed that these have now been overruled and the new runway will be in operation for the beginning of August 2006.
Murcia airport has seen phenominal growth over the last 2 years but is still utilised by the Air Force in the weekday mornings, restricting civil flights to afternoons and all day on weekends, Hopefully this new runway will alleviate this problem and enable more flights.
The new airport at Corvera should start constuction this year and will be as big as Alicante. However, this will take time to build and in the interim San Javier needed to expand to cover the expected increase in passengers.
Finally, it looks like the end of free car parking at Murcia airport, which will free up the car park from the cars that are left these for several months at a time while their owners return home.
