Further afield, the regional capitol of Murcia is about 30 minutes drive and has a host of fine buildings and shops. A 15 minute drive south is the old port city of Cartagena which has an excellent array of shops and old buildings even a Roman amphitheatre, Roman Museum and is the home of the national undersea archeology museum. There are several protected areas within half hours drive, Calblanque and Sierra de Carrascoy regional parks and the Salinas bird sanctuary to name but 3.
